Laparoscopy

At Premier Urology, our goal is to treat your urological conditions in the least invasive way possible. For this reason, we offer a variety of laparoscopic procedures for our patients. Whenever possible, we will treat your condition using laparoscopic techniques rather than traditional surgery.

The Laparoscopic Difference

Why do we offer laparoscopy in our practice? Laparoscopic surgery is performed through small incisions, usually between 5 and 10 mm in length, rather than large open incisions. Small instruments are inserted through these tiny incisions to allow the physician to perform the procedure. A lighted camera is used to allow the surgeon to see what he is doing.

Because of the smaller incisions, the recovery for laparoscopic surgeries is much shorter and less painful than recovery times for traditional surgeries. There is little scarring with this type of procedure. You will be able to return to your normal life much more quickly after undergoing a laparoscopic procedure than you would if you had to submit to open surgery. Also, because the camera used during the procedure allows the surgeon to magnify the images captured, better precisions is possible with laparoscopic surgery.

What Conditions Can Be Treated with Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is highly effective in treating a variety of urological conditions, including tumors, and prostate conditions. In fact, all of the major urological organs can be treated using laparoscopy. Not all conditions can be treated using this minimally invasive surgery, however. Large kidney stones, tumors that are hard to reach, and some reconstructive surgeries cannot be performed with laparoscopy. However, at Premier Urology, we use laparoscopy whenever possible to treat our patients.

If you are facing urological surgery in the near future, schedule a consultation with one of our physicians. We will discuss your options with you and determine if you are eligible to have laparoscopic surgery to treat your condition. At Premier Urology, your comfort and health is our number one goal, so schedule an appointment today.
