Kidney Stones & Disease

Over 20 million Americans suffer from some form of chronic kidney disease, and many millions more have temporary kidney conditions such as kidney stones. Problems with your kidney can interfere with all areas of your life, and serious kidney disease can lead to kidney failure and death. At Premier Urology, we want to help you understand your condition and then work with you to treat it.

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are by far the most common and least dangerous type of kidney disease. Kidney stones are stones that build up in your kidneys from minerals found in your urine. If these stones become too large, they can cause pain and create urinary blockages that need to be treated.

Most people seek treatment for kidney stones when they begin experiencing pain in the back or sides. Blood in the urine can also indicate that a kidney stone is present. We will determine if you have a kidney stone through diagnostic imaging, such as x-rays or CT scans. If you have a stone, we will determine if it is small enough to pass on its own. If so, we will give you medication to help with the pain and allow you to pass the stone naturally.

Large stones may need to be broken up before they will pass. We have a variety of treatment options that we can use to break up kidney stones, including extracoporeal shock wave treatment and surgical procedures. If the stone is stuck in the ureter, we will perform an ureteroscopic procedure to remove it through the ureter.

Other Kidney Diseases

The kidney is an important organ in the urological system, and if it is not healthy, your overall health will suffer. If you notice changes in urination, swelling, fatigue, a metallic taste in your mouth, or unexplained nausea and vomiting, you may have a kidney condition. Schedule an appointment as soon as possible to get an evaluation. The sooner we can treat your kidney disease, the sooner you will be able to be back to your normal lifestyle!
